Vincent Atingah is unfazed about the pedigree of Asante Kotoko as the Premier League champions Gold Stars prepare to face off against the Ghanaian giants in the 2025 Champion of Champions on Sunday.

The epic match, which will usher in the 2025/26 Ghana football season, pits the Miners against FA Cup winners Kotoko in what promises to be an enthralling contest at Duns Park on Sunday, August 31.

The experienced defender acknowledged the pedigree of Kotoko but stressed that Gold Stars are equally prepared and determined to stamp their authority in front of their home fans.

“We have played with Kotoko before. We are in the league with them, so we know them. We are all preparing, and so on the day of the match, every team will prove their worth,” Atingah said. “We are not scared at all. Kotoko is Kotoko, but we are also Gold Stars. They are big, but we are also Gold Stars.”

Gold Stars made history last season by clinching their first-ever Premier League title, a feat that secured their place in the Champion of Champions fixture. For the club and its supporters, this clash represents not only an opportunity to add more silverware to their growing cabinet but also a chance to make a bold statement of intent ahead of the new campaign.

Kotoko, however, enter the contest with their own ambitions, buoyed by their MTN FA Cup triumph. With their experience and tradition in Ghanaian football, the Porcupine Warriors remain formidable opposition.

Despite that, Atingah insists the reigning league champions are unfazed. He highlighted the team’s preparations, resilience and growing confidence as key factors that could tilt the balance in their favor.

Sunday’s clash is expected to attract a huge crowd at Duns Park.
