The countdown to the 2026 MTN Elite U-19 Championship gathers momentum as the official draw for the tournament is scheduled to take place on Friday, August 7, 2026, at the headquarters of the Ghana Football Association in Accra.
The draw ceremony will bring together key stakeholders in Ghana football, including Chairman of the MTN Elite U-19 Championship Committee, Hon. Eric Edem Agbana, members of the organising committee and officials of the Football Association, as the participating teams discover their group-stage opponents.
The second edition of the championship will be staged from August 24 to September 4, 2026, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, where 10 Regional Football Association (RFA) U-19 Select Teams will compete for national honours.
The competition is expected to showcase some of Ghana’s finest emerging football talent, providing a high-level platform for the country’s most promising young players to demonstrate their abilities in a competitive environment. It will also offer the GFA Technical Directorate, national youth team coaches and scouts an invaluable opportunity to identify and assess players for future national team assignments.
The MTN Elite U-19 Championship has become an integral part of the Ghana Football Association’s youth development strategy, bridging the gap between juvenile football and the senior game while creating a structured pathway for talented players to progress into elite football.
The championship forms a key pillar of the GFA’s “Power to the Youth” agenda, reaffirming the GFA’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of Ghanaian footballers through meaningful competition, quality player development and enhanced talent identification.
The inaugural edition produced exciting football and unearthed several outstanding prospects, with Eastern Region emerging as the first-ever champions after defeating Brong Ahafo Region in a dramatic penalty shootout in the final.
