President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has announced plans to formally roll out the GFA’s Diaspora Strategy, aimed at strengthening ties with Ghanaian footballers abroad and expanding the talent pool available to the country’s national teams.

Speaking at the 32nd Ordinary Session of  Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Thursday, August 20, 2026, the President said the initiative would build on the success of the GFA’s first talent identification programme in the United Kingdom.

“Building on the success of our first Talent Identification Programme in the United Kingdom (UK), we will formally roll out the GFA Diaspora Strategy to strengthen relationships with Ghanaian players abroad, identify emerging talents and broaden the pool of players available to our national teams,” he said.

The Diaspora Strategy is intended to establish a more structured relationship between the GFA and Ghanaian players developing their careers outside the country.

Through the initiative, the Football Association will seek to improve its ability to identify emerging talents with Ghanaian heritage, monitor their development and create stronger connections with the national team setup.

The strategy could also provide the GFA with a broader and more systematic approach to scouting players across international football markets, complementing the Association’s domestic talent identification programmes.

The United Kingdom serves as the starting point for the initiative following the GFA’s first Talent Identification Programme there.

The successful pilot has provided the GFA with a foundation upon which to develop a wider diaspora network, allowing Ghana to strengthen its engagement with players who are developing within football systems outside the country.

President Simeon-Okraku said the ultimate objective is to broaden the range of players available to Ghana’s various national teams.

The strategy is expected to complement the GFA’s investment in domestic youth development, including the Power to the Youth policy, Elite Football Academies and grassroots competitions, by creating a more comprehensive national talent identification framework.
