Former Russian tennis star Andrei Chesnokov recently opened up about his views on Mirra Andreeva’s citizenship, suggesting that she will soon change it. Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which started in February 2022, several Russian-born tennis players have competed as neutral athletes or under the flags of other nations.
Multiple Russian-born tennis players, including Daria Kasatkina, Anastasia Potapova, Alina Charaeva, Alisa Oktiabreva, and Anna Blinkova, have changed their citizenship since the commencement of the war. Former world No. 9 Chesnokov highlighted Andreeva’s current life and training setup under coach Conchita MartÃnez in France and opined that she too may follow Kasatkina and Potapova’s moves. In an interview with Sport RBC, Chesnokov predicted that Andreeva might change her nationality to French.
