Asante Kotoko SC kicked off their 2025/26 campaign on a high note after securing a narrow 1-0 victory over Bibiani GoldStars to win the prestigious ‘Champion of Champions’ title at the Dun’s Park on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors, eager to bounce back from a disappointing Top 4 campaign earlier this month, looked purposeful from the onset.

But it was GoldStars who imposed themselves in the early stages, creating the first clear chance of the contest. Appiah McCarthy’s well-taken free kick drew a strong save from Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Camara, before Atta Kumi was denied by a last-ditch clearance from defender Shaybu Abubakar.

Kotoko gradually settled into the game and began to find openings.

Albert Amoah nearly broke the deadlock when his powerful header forced GoldStars’ shot-stopper Emmanuel Kobi into a brilliant save.

The decisive moment arrived in the 70th minute when substitute Hamzata Musah, who had only recently been introduced, latched onto a pinpoint delivery from Seth Kwadwo to bury a low strike into the bottom corner.

With this win, Kotoko have now lifted the ‘Champion of Champions’ trophy for the fourth time in their history, adding 2025 to their previous triumphs in 1977, 2012, 2013, and 2014.

Beyond silverware, the result provides much-needed confidence for Abdul Karim Zito’s men as they aim to reassert their dominance in Ghanaian football this season.

The victory also serves notice to their domestic rivals that Kotoko are ready to challenge for major honours once again.
