Liverpool have made the first significant move in the chase for Victor Osimhen. It is alleged that they have initiated talks with Napoli with the view to making a summer transfer. The Nigerian striker is an accomplished goal-scorer and one of the top-valued forwards on the continent. Consequently, Liverpool view him as the ideal long-term solution for their strike force. With Jurgen Klopp departed and Arne Slot in charge, this might be a new beginning at Anfield. Napoli will not sell Osimhen without a fight, but Liverpool are not giving up either. They will even consider offering Luis Díaz as part of a trade deal to negotiate the price down. Supporters and pundits now expect something to materialize.

Napoli have put a huge price of €120 million on Osimhen. But they may settle for something slightly less if a quality addition is thrown into the mix. Liverpool are amenable to that. Luis Díaz has been touted as being part of the transfer. While Díaz remains one of Anfield’s finest talents, Liverpool could sell him to get their prized target. Barcelona are also keen on Díaz, so there is more weight behind the swap chat. Napoli, however, want to rebuild their team and see Díaz as a perfect signing. The deal, though complicated, is making headway slowly.

Liverpool lacked consistency at the back of the net last campaign. Núñez and Jota produced glimpses of brilliance, but the Reds lacked that consistent No.9. Osimhen is the perfect man for the job. He scored 26 league goals in Napoli’s title-winning season and added more last year despite injuries. His strength, pace, and work rate make him perfect for the Premier League. He doesn’t just score goals—he creates problems for defenders. Moreover, his hunger and attitude match Liverpool’s high standards. Signing Osimhen would immediately upgrade their attacking threat.

Arne Slot’s style of play is based on speed, pressing, and interchanging of positions. When playing for Napoli, Osimhen would press the defenders and carve out space for other players. That is what Slot is looking for in a striker. He can connect passes, drop deep when required, and finish opportunities anywhere. Surrounded by Salah and Gakpo, among others, Osimhen might really flourish. So his signing would enable Liverpool to stretch defences and press higher on the pitch. Slot could even revert to a more traditional 4-3-3 with Osimhen up front. It’s the ideal tactical fit.

Sources close to the club are convinced the Liverpool Victor Osimhen transfer is nearer than most expected. Multiple sources close to the player say that Osimhen has discussed with his agent a possible move to the Premier League. Though Chelsea and PSG have been interested in the past, it is Liverpool who have moved first. They believe they can provide Champions League football, which Napoli cannot. For this reason, insiders are now tipping a breakthrough to occur. Provided terms are struck sooner rather than later, Osimhen could be one of the summer’s most anticipated signings.

For my money, Victor Osimhen is the forward Liverpool have been missing since the peak Firmino era. He’s quick, ruthless, and constructed for the big occasion. Alright, okay, losing Díaz may sting in the short term, but it’s a price worth paying. Titles are won with goals, and Osimhen delivers them by the bucketload. He’s not only a player—he’s a statement. If Arne Slot is keen to begin his reign with purpose, then signing Osimhen would be just that. It would make a clear statement to the rest of Europe: Liverpool are not hitting the brakes—they’re rebuilding for victory.
