GPL Matchday 5 Statistics: Four teams remain unbeaten
SHARE

After five rounds of fixtures in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, four teams — Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko, Heart of Lions, and FC Samartex — have managed to maintain their unbeaten runs, showcasing consistency and resilience in the early stages of the campaign.

Asante Kotoko have played four matches so far, securing two victories and sharing the spoils twice. The Porcupine Warriors have looked compact under their new setup, grinding out results both home and away. Hearts of Oak, meanwhile, have also started the season strongly, recording two wins and three draws in their five matches. The Phobians continue to grow in confidence under coach Didi Dramani, with their defense proving particularly difficult to breach.

FC Samartex have mirrored Hearts of Oak’s start, registering two wins and three draws from five games. Their attacking balance and work rate have earned them plaudits as one of the most disciplined sides this season. Heart of Lions, on the other hand, have been the most impressive of the unbeaten quartet, winning three games and drawing two. The Kpando-based club’s strong defensive foundation and clinical finishing have made them one of the surprise packages of the early season.

In total, 43 matches have been played across all venues after Matchday 5. Home advantage has once again proven significant, with 24 home wins compared to just 6 away victories and 13 draws. A total of 75 goals have been scored so far — 52 by home teams and 23 by away sides — underlining how difficult it has been for visiting teams to pick up results on the road.

Disciplinary records show 142 yellow cards and 3 red cards issued in the opening weeks of the competition. Interestingly, 10 penalties have been successfully converted with no misses recorded so far this season — a sign of the high levels of composure and accuracy among the league’s penalty takers.
