Ghana threw away a first-half lead to draw 1-1 with Mali in their second Group C game in the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

The Black Queens went into the game having lost their opening match 2-0 to South Africa. They opened the scoring in the 6th minute when Doris Boaduwaa bundled in a cross from Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah after Mali’s goalkeeper failed to deal with the out-swinging ball.

Ghana retained control of the game in the first half, but Mali gradually grew in confidence in the second half with some impressive attacks. Mali’s effort paid off with an equalizer from Aissata Traoré in the 52nd minute.

Princella Adubea and Princess Marfo replaced Evelyn Badu and Alice Kusi in the second half as Ghana pushed for a win, but Mali held on for a point. Ghana will need to win their final game against Tanzania to have a chance of progressing from the group stage.
