GFA lays wreath for Helicopter crash victims

GFA lays wreath for Helicopter crash victims

President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, today led members of the Executive Council, FA staff and some club officials to lay a wreath in memory of eight distinguished Ghanaians who lost their lives in a tragic helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

The solemn ceremony took place at the gardens of the Jubilee House, the seat of government.

President Simeon-Okraku paid glowing tribute to the fallen, describing them as heroes who died in the line of national duty.

“On behalf of the Football Association and the football community, we express our sincere condolences to the President of our Republic, the Government, the people of Ghana, and the families of the eight outstanding departed Ghanaians. We join a grieving nation in mourning. We fondly remember Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, who served sports and football diligently as a Deputy Minister of Sports. May their souls rest in perfect peace. Their memory will forever be cherished,” he said.

The eight victims, including Defence Minister, who also served as former Deputy Sports Minister, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed were among the victims of the crash in the southern Ashanti region of the country.

Also among the victims were Alhaji Mohammad Muniru Limuna, deputy national security coordinator, Samuel Sarpong, vice chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) party and Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate.

The helicopter’s crew squadron leader Peter Bafemi Anala, flying officer Malin Twum-Ampadu and Sgt. Ernest Addo Mensah.

The President will lead the football family to the state funeral of the departed souls on Friday August, 15, 2025, at the Black Star square.
