FIFA League Development: Catch Them Young Female Referees officiate Elite U-17 Girls Championship

The Catch Them Young Female Referees are gaining invaluable hands-on experience as they officiate matches in the Elite U-17 Girls Inter-Regional Championship, a vital component of the FIFA Women’s Development Programme: League Development Project.

This initiative forms part of an ongoing Capacity Building Course jointly organized by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and FIFA, aimed at equipping young female referees with both theoretical and practical skills essential for their professional growth.

Through this program, participants benefit from on-field mentorship and technical guidance, enabling them to refine their officiating techniques, decision-making abilities, and match management competence. The practical sessions are carefully structured to prepare the referees for progression into national and international roles, fostering a new generation of skilled, confident, and ethical match officials.

Beyond the technical aspects, the referees are also being trained in effective communication, teamwork, and leadership,  core attributes for success at the elite level of football officiating.

The Catch Them Young Refereeing initiative remains a cornerstone of the GFA’s broader youth and women’s football development strategy, reaffirming the Association’s commitment to building a sustainable pipeline of competent female referees who will continue to elevate Ghana’s presence on the global stage.
