Bristol City & Millwall sanctioned for mass brawl

Bristol City and Millwall have been fined and players from both sides banned after the Football Association imposed further punishments following a mass brawl at the end of their Championship meeting last month.

The two clubs were charged with failing “to ensure that their players and/or technical area staff did not behave in an improper and/or provocative and/or violent way after the match finished”.

The FA said that both clubs admitted the charges against them, with Bristol City issued a £40,000 fine and the Lions ordered to pay a £30,000 fine following an independent Regulatory Commission hearing.

Meanwhile, Robins midfielder Joe Williams has been banned for three matches after admitting a charge of “acting in an improper manner and/or using violent conduct”, and will miss the upcoming games against Oxford United, Ipswich Town and Sheffield Wednesday.

Millwall keeper Joel Coleman denied the same charge but the commission found it to be proven and imposed a two-match suspension.

Lions first-team coach David Livermore admitted his charge and was handed a four-match touchline ban and fined £1,400.

Earlier this month, Bristol City’s Ross McCrorie and Harry Cornick were banned for three games after admitting charges of violent conduct.

Millwall won the game at Ashton Gate on 6 December 1-0 but the melee broke out on the touchline at full-time after the Robins were denied an added-time equaliser by an offside flag.
