Black Queens mount WAFCON podium to receive well-deserved bronze medals

The Black Queens proudly ascended the podium at the 2024 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) to receive their bronze medals, capping off a spirited and inspiring campaign.

The country’s national women’s team clinched third place after a hard-fought victory over defending champions South Africa in the tournament’s third-place playoff. The triumph symbolized  their return to the WAFCON podium and reaffirming their status as a force in African women’s football.

Their journey to the bronze medal reflects the steady growth and resurgence of the women’s game in Ghana. This progress has been fueled by strategic initiatives such as the Women’s Football Strategy and the Football4Girls project, programs that aim to enhance development, visibility, and opportunities for female footballers across the nation.

The medal ceremony was filled with pride and celebration. Beaming with joy, the Black Queens received their medals amid cheers from fans and officials alike.

With this modest achievement, the Black Queens have not only earned a place on the podium but also reignited hope and ambition for the future of women’s football in Ghana.
