Arsenal are still interested in strengthening their defence this summer, and Marc Guehi is right at the top of that list. Despite Crystal Palace’s FA Cup victory, the Gunners believe the defender is still going to leave Selhurst Park. Mikel Arteta continues to piece his team together for longevity rather than a fleeting title push. The Guehi profile fits that perfectly.

The 24-year-old has become the Premier League’s most consistent centre-half. He has been outstanding since Palace signed him from Chelsea. His defensive maturity and composure have been exceptional. His contribution was extraordinary when Palace made it to the FA Cup to record a 2-1 victory at Wembley.

Arsenal currently possess William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães, Jakub Kiwior, and Ben White in defense. The team, however, want to add some depth in a bid to ensure stability in the defense line. Having qualified for the Champions League, Arsenal want to create a team that can battle on multiple fronts.

Marc Guehi provides both stability and flexibility. He is capable of playing in a back three or a back four and keeps his cool when under pressure. His positional sense and ability to play with the ball are tailor-made for Arteta’s system. Arsenal look at him as one who can easily fit into their high defensive system. Reports suggest that Crystal Palace’s FA Cup victory has not significantly changed the defender’s future. The club may want to retain their core players, but they expect heavy interest in Guehi this summer.

Arsenal are not alone in their search. A number of Premier League’s best teams have watched Guehi and view him as a great signing. His international experience again enhances his standing. With the Euros on the horizon, the value of Guehi may increase if he impresses for England.

Palace realize that a successful tournament would boost his market value. The club have already drawn up a plan in anticipation of bids and are aware they can demand a high price. Although Guehi is still contracted, the prospect of playing European football for a different club might persuade him to leave. Arsenal’s capacity to provide Champions League football provides them with an advantage. They are able to offer regular high-level competition and a steady project under Arteta. The reliability makes the Emirates an appealing destination for ambitious players such as Guehi.

Crystal Palace, in the meantime, are expecting their recent form and qualification for the Europa League to aid in keeping crucial names on board. Manager Oliver Glasner has breathed new life into the side since joining, producing optimism at the club. That said, despite their improvement, Palace are realistic about keeping their top players.

If Arsenal are serious about signing Guehi, they need to move quickly. If they delay, others may join the bidding war. With centre-backs so in vogue this summer, the window for a seamless transfer will close quickly. The Gunners are likely to scout a number of defensive options, but Guehi is right at the top of their list. He possesses the correct mix of age, experience, and promise. Arteta has stated that depth in the squad is vital if they are to keep growing as a team.

If Guehi does leave will depend on several factors—personal ambition, contract details, and negotiations between clubs. Gunners’ interest is still keen, and their scouts are following the situation closely. An official bid is still to be made, but things are moving behind the scenes. Whether Guehi is willing to play at the very top level may well determine what he does next.

Marc Guehi is still very much on Arsenal’s radar. Palace would like to retain him, but Arsenal’s incentive and competitive advantage might be the turning factor. As other clubs begin showing interest, the Gunners need to act fast if they are to secure one of England’s most reliable defenders.
