The 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 Championship continues with a blockbuster Group B opener on Friday, July 11, as reigning champions Ivory Coast take on Burkina Faso at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram. Kick-off is scheduled for 15:00 GMT.

The clash rekindles the rivalry from the previous edition’s final, where Ivory Coast triumphed to lift the regional title. With both sides now drawn in the same group, this early rematch promises fireworks as they battle for early dominance in a highly competitive group that also includes Niger and Togo.

Ivory Coast head coach Younes Zerdouk exuded confidence ahead of the game, declaring that his team is ready to defend their crown. “We are here to retain our title. The players are focused and hungry. We know what is at stake, and we are prepared to go all out,” Zerdouk stated.

Burkina Faso’s coach, Kabore Boureima, struck a calm but determined tone in his pre-match comments. He believes his team is flying under the radar and has what it takes to cause a major upset in this year’s competition. “We respect all our opponents, but we are here to surprise everyone,” he noted.

Both teams boast young talents eager to impress scouts and fans alike, and with their recent history adding extra spice to the encounter, a high-tempo and physical battle is expected. The match is seen as a potential group decider, even in the opening round.
