Black Starlets captain Joseph Narbi emerged as the standout performer as Ghana battled to a 1-1 draw with Togo in their opening game of the WAFU Zone B U17 Boys Championship in Yamoussoukro on Sunday.

Narbi, who led by example throughout the game, scored Ghana’s only goal in the ninth minute after connecting beautifully with a cross from Mark Aboagye. His tireless work rate, leadership and creativity stood out, especially after the team was reduced to ten men as early as the second minute following the red card to Gabriel Denyinah.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Narbi orchestrated play from midfield and constantly posed an attacking threat. He nearly restored Ghana’s lead in the second half after brilliantly turning his marker, but Togo’s goalkeeper Ninkabou Gantin produced a superb save to deny him.

Togo equalized early in the second half when Sultan Ganiou converted a penalty, but Narbi continued to inspire his teammates with his composure and tactical discipline. His ability to transition between attack and defense ensured the Black Starlets remained competitive until the final whistle.

The Man of the Match Award was presented to Joseph Narbi immediately after the game by … in recognition of his exceptional display. His performance drew praise from fans and officials alike, with many hailing him as one of the tournament’s brightest prospects.

Ghana will take on hosts Ivory Coast in their second group game on Tuesday, with Narbi expected to play another key role as the Starlets aim for their first win of the competition.
