The Upper West Regional Football Association has officially launched the U-15 Girls Regional Colts League in a colourful ceremony attended by school representatives, club officials and coaches in the region.

The event marked a significant step toward strengthening girls’ football and creating structured opportunities for young talents to grow through regular competition.

In his opening remarks, Chairman of the Regional Football Association, Sadugu Yahaya, explained that the initiative is a FIFA-funded programme channelled through the Ghana Football Association to the Regional Football Associations. He urged participating schools and clubs to be proactive and committed so the region can fully benefit from the programme.

He emphasized that the success of the league depends on collective effort and dedication from all stakeholders.

The Chairperson of the Women’s Football Desk at the RFA, Madam Saweiba Mohammed, encouraged schools to take the initiative seriously by using it to unearth and nurture young talents.

She noted that many girls possess great potential but need the right platform to develop their skills and confidence.

She stressed that the league should serve as a foundation for grooming disciplined, skilful, and competitive female players.

The U-15 Girls Regional Colts League aims to provide regular competitive football for young female players while instilling discipline, teamwork, and technical growth from an early age.

The launch signalled not only the start of a football competition but also a renewed commitment to empowering girls and advancing women’s football in the Upper West Region.

The Colts League is set to kick off during this weekend across the region.
