Ron Darling has plenty of praise for Tarik Skubal. His worry, now that the two-time AL Cy Young winner is on the open market, is what a record contract for a starting pitcher actually buys.
The former Mets right-hander and 1986 World Series champion joined Joe DeMayo on The Mets Pod this week.
Skubal, who won the AL Cy Young award in 2024 and 2025, was traded from Detroit to the Dodgers before the 2026 deadline, went 12-7 with a 2.72 ERA and is now a free agent. MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reported his next deal could pass Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s 12-year, $325 million record for a pitcher.
