The President of the Football Association,  Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, on Friday August 15, 2025, led a delegation from the football fraternity to pay their final respects to eight distinguished Ghanaians who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash.

The solemn state funeral, held at the Independence Square in Accra, drew mourners from across the country, including President John Mahama and Vice-President Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, government officials, members of the security services and representatives from various professional bodies. The atmosphere was heavy with grief as the nation came together to honour the memory of the fallen.

President Simeon-Okraku was joined by General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo, senior FA executives, staff members and officials from football clubs across the country, as the Football Association solidarise with the bereaved families and the larger Ghanaian community.

On Thursday, August 14, 2025, the President also led the Executive Council, FA staff and some club officials in laying a wreath at the gardens of the Jubilee House, the seat of government, in honour of the victims.

Their passing has left a deep void in the hearts of many and Friday’s service served both as a tribute and a collective expression of national unity.

The helicopter crash, which claimed these eight lives, remains one of the most tragic events in recent Ghanaian history.
