Premier League: Yussif Mubarik late miss costs Medeama as leaders stumble in Aduana stalemate

League leaders Medeama SC squandered a golden opportunity to extend their advantage at the summit of the Premier League after being held to a dramatic 1-1 draw by Aduana FC at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa.

Captain Yussif Mubarik endured a heartbreaking moment in the dying minutes, missing a crucial penalty that would have sealed all three points and widened Medeama’s lead at the top of the table.

The encounter, originally scheduled for Friday, was disrupted by heavy rainfall that forced officials to suspend proceedings. The remaining minutes were completed on Saturday morning.

Medeama had earlier looked on course for victory when Salim Adams produced a stunning free kick to hand the hosts the lead. The strike ignited the Tarkwa faithful and appeared to set the tone for another dominant home display.

However, Aduana FC refused to fold. Seidu Saana restored parity in the 70th minute to level the score and set up a nervy finale.

With just three minutes left on the clock after play resumed Saturday, Medeama were handed a lifeline when Derrick Fordjour was brought down in the penalty area. The responsibility fell to Mubarik, but his effort from the spot failed to find the net, leaving the home crowd stunned and Aduana relieved.

The final whistle confirmed a share of the spoils, a result that keeps Medeama seven points clear at the top but opens the door for chasing rivals to narrow the gap in Sunday’s remaining fixtures.
