The Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, His Royal Majesty (HRM) Jira Yagbonwura Bii-Kuntuo Jewu Soale I, has honoured Ghana’s U15 boys and girls national teams following their participation at the WAFU Schools Football Championship held in Burkina Faso.

The gesture comes on the back of commendable performances by the two teams at the regional tournament, with the U15 Girls, who went into the competition as defending continental champions, finishing as runners-up after a spirited campaign.

In recognition of their efforts and to motivate them for future assignments, HRM Jira Yagbonwura hosted the players and their technical teams to a special dinner at his Palace in Damango, creating an atmosphere of celebration and encouragement.

Addressing the teams, the Overlord commended their discipline, commitment and the pride they brought to the nation through their performances on the international stage, urging them to remain focused and dedicated as they continue their football development.

HRM Jira Yagbonwura also presented the teams with an undisclosed amount of money as a token of appreciation and pledged his continued support for the players and officials whenever the need arises.

The event underscored the growing role of traditional leadership in supporting sports development at the grassroots level, while further boosting the morale of the young footballers as they prepare for future national and international competitions.
