Lancashire Cricket have signed 18-year-old right-arm fast bowler George Brown on his first professional contract, with the deal running until the end of the 2028 season. The contract begins on November 1, 2026.

Brown is the latest graduate of Lancashire’s Academy to progress into the professional setup. A product of the county’s age-group system, he joined the Lancashire Academy in winter 2025 and has since been rewarded with opportunities in the Second XI this season, impressing with the ball and showcasing his ability with the bat in T20 cricket. He plays his club cricket for Leigh CC and first took up the game at junior level with Monton CC.

“I am really proud to sign my first professional contract with Lancashire, especially as I’m a local lad. I have put in a lot of hard work to get here, but this is just the beginning, and I know I need to continue working hard. Having the opportunity to train and share a dressing room with some of the best and most experienced players in the country is something I am incredibly excited about. I can’t wait to learn, develop and hopefully get the chance to contribute,” Brown said as quoted by Lancashire Cricket.

Brown was also selected to represent the North of England in the prestigious Super 4s competition in 2025, where he impressed with his pace, further underlining his potential as a developing fast bowler within the county’s pathway.

Head Coach Steven Croft expressed his delight at securing Brown’s signature on a professional deal, highlighting the youngster’s progress through the Academy and Second XI as key factors in earning this opportunity.

“We are really pleased that George has signed his first professional contract with Lancashire. He has impressed throughout his time in the Academy and with the Second XI when given the opportunity, and he deserves this chance. Developing young talent is something that the Club prides itself on, and George is another exciting young fast bowler coming through our pathway. He has plenty of potential and will add further quality to an already exciting pace-bowling group,” said Croft.
