The stage is set for a blockbuster IPL 2026 final between defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 31. However, weather conditions could play a significant role in determining how the much-anticipated title clash unfolds.

The weather is sunny in the morning, but concerns remain after the local meteorological department issued a yellow alert for parts of Gujarat, warning of strong winds and the possibility of thunderstorms later in the day. While the city has been experiencing intense heatwave conditions over the past few days, there remains a chance of weather interruptions during the final as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

The city recorded a scorching maximum temperature of 43.1°C on Saturday, prompting severe heatwave advisories. Although significant rainfall is forecast to arrive in and around Ahmedabad from June 1, isolated thunderstorms and brief spells of rain cannot be ruled out during Sunday’s (May 31) contest.

As per IPL regulations, a reserve day has been allotted for the final in case play is not possible on the scheduled day due to adverse weather or unforeseen circumstances. However, weather forecasts suggest that Monday could witness even wetter conditions than Sunday, making the completion of the match on the original date a priority for tournament officials.

The IPL governing body is expected to make every effort to ensure that the final is completed on Sunday, even if it requires a reduction in overs. Should the match remain incomplete across both the scheduled day and reserve day, RCB would be crowned IPL 2026 champions by virtue of finishing above GT in the league-stage standings.

Ahmedabad has witnessed a similar scenario before. The IPL 2023 final between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings had to be shifted to the reserve day after heavy thunderstorms and rain disrupted proceedings on the original match day, leading to waterlogging in several parts of the city.

Weather-related challenges also affected GT’s preparations ahead of the final. Following their victory over Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2, the Titans experienced travel disruptions while returning home. Adverse weather conditions across north-western India led to temporary runway closures in Chandigarh, delaying multiple flights. As a result, the Gujarat squad reached Ahmedabad only close to 11 PM on May 30.

Both the teams have gone face-to-face thrice this season, with RCB holding a 2-1 advantage heading into the finals. The winner of this summit clash will clinch their second-ever IPL trophy.
