The Ghana Football Association (GFA), through its Women’s Football Development Desk, has successfully held a meeting with all Regional Football Association (RFA) Chairmen and Heads of Women’s Football from the various regions to discuss the nationwide rollout of U15 Girls Colts Leagues.

This  follows the successful pilot of the U15 and U17 Girls Colts Leagues in the Northern RFA and Ashaiman under the Greater Accra Region RFA, setting the stage for full implementation across all ten football regions in Ghana.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders dedicated to the growth of grassroots and youth football, particularly in the women’s game. All 10 RFA Chairmen were present, demonstrating institutional support for the nationwide expansion of the program.

Also in attendance were the Heads of Women’s Football Development from each region: Western RFA – Amy Fynn-Thompson, Eastern RFA – Louisa Amanor, Greater Accra RFA – Cleopatra Nsiah Nketiah, Central RFA – Faustina Kware, Upper East RFA – Clemencia Anyaan, Upper West RFA – Saweiba Mohammed, Brong and Ahafo RFA – Edwinancy Nunyanuake Glover, Ashanti RFA – Mrs. Evelyn Nsiah Asare Owusu, Northern RFA – Hajiah Zalia Iddi, Volta RFA – Madam Innocentia Agbavitor

The session was led by Jennifer Amankwaa Sarpong, Women’s Football Development Manager at the GFA Technical Directorate. She guided participants through the structure, modalities, and safeguarding requirements of the U15 Girls Colts Leagues, in line with standards set by both FIFA and the GFA.

She emphasized that, as is the case with the male Colts leagues, existing clubs are eligible to establish U15 girls teams and register their players under their club umbrella. These young players may also have the opportunity to feature occasionally in Women’s Division One League matches to accelerate their development.

The RFAs will benefit from this programme to implement the girls colts leagues to help close up the huge gap between boys and girls football and to create the same opportunities for the girls.

The leagues will be played by 80 U15 Girls Teams across Ghana and will engage over 3,300 girls. This includes the Catch Them Young girl referees who will be part of the officiating team.

This initiative is part of the implementation of the GFA Women’s Football Development Strategy spearhead by Jennifer Amankwaa Sarpong, GFA Women’s Football Development Manager.
