The Football Association, through its Medical Committee, has taken another bold step in safeguarding the health and performance of players with the successful organisation of a Pre-Season Medical Webinar on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.

The initiative reflects the GFA’s mandate to ensure a safe, healthy and competitive Premier League season scheduled to begin this weekend.

The insightful and highly interactive session brought together medical representatives clubs across Ghana’s Premier League, Women’s Premier League and Division One League, alongside top experts in sports medicine, nutrition, and psychology. Knowledge sharing was at the heart of the discussions, with practical case studies sparking engaging dialogue on how to prevent injuries, fuel performance and support players’ mental health.

Key highlights included strategies for managing football’s most common injuries such as ACL tears, ankle sprains and groin pain, as outlined by Dr. Abena Tannor,  Dr. Eric Tetteh Ayertey and nutritionist Mrs. Renee Opare Otoo offered evidence-based guidance on hydration,
fueling and the risks of supplement misuse, while Dr. Ernest Anim-Opare and psychologist Dr. Philip Omoregie tackled issues of stress, burnout and performance anxiety.

The integration of real football scenarios allowed participants to connect medical science with on-the-ground realities, fostering collaboration and practical solutions among the clubs’ medical teams.  According to the Committee, this webinar heralds the first of many
upcoming sessions, both virtual and in-person, aimed at providing continuous, quality health support for players throughout the season.

The initiative forms part of the GFA’s broader commitment to safeguarding player welfare and strengthening the medical standards of Ghanaian football.
