The maiden edition of the U17 Girls Championship ignited with fiery action on Matchday One in Group B, where the Upper West Region delivered a commanding 3-1 victory over the Western Region. The match began at a blistering pace, with Upper West’s Sylvia Mwinibamogna finding the net in just the 3rd minute. Western Region managed to equalize before halftime through Charity Billingham in the 39th minute, setting up a tense second half. However, Upper West reclaimed control with a goal from Rukaya Sulemana at the 59-minute mark, and Sylvia Mwinibamogna sealed the win by coolly converting a penalty in the 75th minute, completing her brace.

In the other Group B fixture, a single moment of precision was enough to decide the contest between Eastern Region and Greater Accra. In a tightly fought match where chances were scarce, Eastern’s Vivian Asare held her nerve to convert a penalty in the 56th minute, securing a hard-fought 1-0 win. The victory places Eastern Region in a strong early position in the group standings.

Over in Group A, the Central Region pulled off a narrow 1-0 victory against a strong Ashanti Region side. The match was decided by a solitary goal from Central’s standout player, Alberta Adjei, who proved to be the difference-maker on the day. Her decisive contribution not only secured all three points for her team but also earned her the Most Valuable Player award, capping a perfect individual and team performance.

Completing the Group A action, the Volta Region emerged victorious from an entertaining 2-1 encounter with the Northern Region. Volta took an early lead through Kposo Bebe in the 5th minute, only for Northern’s Mohammed Ruhia to level the score at 1-1 in the 13th minute. Just before the halftime whistle, Kposo Bebe struck again, restoring Volta’s lead and ultimately securing the win. With her two crucial goals, Bebe was the undeniable star of the show and was rightly named the match’s MVP, signalling her as a player to watch in the tournament.
