The Black Starlets were narrowly beaten 1–0 by Accra Hearts of Oak’s Division Two side, Auroras, in a thrilling curtain raiser to the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League opener at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday afternoon.

The Young Phobians stunned the national U17 side with an early strike, finding the back of the net under just a minute. Despite a spirited fightback, the Starlets could not convert their numerous opportunities into goals as Auroras held on to secure a memorable win.

After conceding so early, the Black Starlets quickly settled into their rhythm and produced some eye-catching football to the admiration of the fans present. They dominated large spells of the match, creating several chances but were undone by poor finishing in both halves.

Captain Joseph Narbi, striker Gavi Yao Robinsho and midfielder Michael Awuli all came agonizingly close to finding the equalizer, but their attempts either missed the target or were thwarted by a resilient Auroras backline.

The game served as an exciting prelude to the season’s first Premier League clash between Accra Hearts of Oak and Hohoe United. Supporters were treated to an entertaining display of youth football, which showcased the depth of talent coming through the ranks of Ghanaian football.

Despite the defeat, the Black Starlets earned praise for their attractive style of play and tactical discipline. The match also offered valuable competitive minutes for the national U17 side as they continue preparations for the upcoming WAFU Zone B U17 Championship.
