Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu and Tanvi Sharma reached the quarterfinals of the 2026 Australian Open Super500 Tournament in Sydney on Thursday.

In two all-Indian pre-quarterfinal matchups, Sindhu edged past Isharani Baruah 22-20, 21-12, while Tanvi defeated Malvika Bansod 21-13, 21-15.

The 17-year-old will have a tough task ahead as she will be taking on the top seed, Akane Yamaguchi of Japan, in the next round. This will be the first meeting between them.

Sindhu, on the other hand, will be facing a much lower-ranked Su Yu Chen of Chinese Taipei in her quarterfinal matchup on Friday.

Meanwhile, the other Indian women’s singles player, Tanya Hemanth, bowed out in the second round to the second-seed Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand, 12-21, 15-21.

In the men’s doubles, the rising Indian pair of Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun progressed to the next round with a dominant 21-17, 21-7 win over a pair from New Zealand.

They will next take on Chinese Taipei’s Cheng Chen and Kuang Liu in the quarterfinals, which will be the first meeting between the two pairs on the circuit.

On the other hand, the mixed doubles pair of Dhruv Rawat and K Maneesha also exited in the second round, losing 19-21, 18-21 to Japan’s Akira Koga and Natsu Saito.
