Accra Lions have been relegated from the Premier League, joining Legon Cities and Nsoatreman FC as the three clubs to drop out of the top flight at the end of the 2024/25 season.

The Lions’ demotion was confirmed following a heavy 4-0 defeat to newly crowned champions Gold Stars FC at the Duns Park in Bibiani on Sunday. The loss marked a disappointing end to a turbulent campaign for the club, which finished in 15th place, just one year after achieving an impressive second-place finish in the 2023/24 season.

Gold Stars, on the other hand, celebrated a historic achievement, clinching their first-ever Premier League title with the emphatic final-day victory. Goals from Abdul Farouk Amoaful, Kelvin Oppong, Samuel Kumi, and Frank Amankwah sealed the win and ignited celebrations in Bibiani as Gold Stars were crowned champions in front of their jubilant supporters.

For Accra Lions, the defeat was the final blow in a season filled with inconsistency and missed opportunities. They now follow Legon Cities, whose relegation had already been confirmed, and Nsoatreman FC, who withdrew from the league earlier in the season, resulting in automatic demotion.
