Trevor Plouffe said the Yankees could not fix a clubhouse culture problem by bringing in someone from outside, and that captain Aaron Judge and manager Aaron Boone have to take it upon themselves to set standards. He questioned whether Judge polices preparation and baserunning day-to-day.
Plouffe, a former big-league infielder who co-hosts “Baseball Today” with Chris Rose, spoke about the Yankees’ problem on Monday, Oct. 19, the day reports said Boone would return in 2027. A newcomer cannot impose standards, he said.
