Ahead of his highly anticipated campaign at the 2026 Paris Masters, Novak Djokovic has addressed what a reporter described as his “unfair” treatment by Serbia’s previous government, a week after a student-led movement ended 14 years of Aleksandar Vucic’s rule. Back in Paris for the first time since his 2023 title, he separated the country he represents from its government.
Djokovic repeatedly backed the protests through nearly two years of demonstrations that followed the November 2024 collapse of a railway station canopy in Novi Sad, which killed 16 people. On October 25 the student-backed list won the snap elections Vucic had called, prompting the 24-time Grand Slam champion to praise the students’ dignity and resilience.
