Joey Votto said the offseason repair of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. should start with one narrow target. He wanted no line drives and no flattening of the swing, only home runs to that side of the field.
Votto, who was born in Toronto and played 17 seasons for the Cincinnati Reds, was the 2010 National League MVP. He now works as an analyst for MLB Network and NBC’s Sunday Night Baseball.
Votto spent spring training with the Blue Jays in 2024 before an injury ended that stint. Guerrero is in the first year of a 14-year, $500 million extension and finished 2026 with career lows: a .260 average, nine home runs and a .688 OPS, with only one homer at Rogers Centre.
