The Medical Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) led by Dr. Abena Tannor, in collaboration with the Medical Women Association of Ghana (MWAG) and Hope Xchange Medical Center, on Saturday, 7th February 2026 conducted a free breast and cervical cancer screening exercise for 77 female footballers and match officials in Kumasi.

The screening targeted Division One female footballers under the auspices of the Ashanti Regional Football Association, bringing together players from eight clubs, alongside a number of female match officials and referees, for the comprehensive health outreach.

In addition to the clinical screening, participants took part in an educational session focused on breast and cervical cancer awareness, early detection, and the importance of routine preventive healthcare. The session provided practical information aimed at empowering the athletes to take proactive steps in safeguarding their health.

This initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to integrate healthcare into women’s football, ensuring that female athletes receive essential medical services in environments that are accessible and athlete-friendly.

It also highlights the GFA Medical Committee’s commitment to working with regional football associations, clubs, and healthcare partners to bring quality healthcare directly to the doorstep of female footballers, protecting their wellbeing both on and off the pitch.
