Defending Champions Asante Kotoko are through to the Round of 16 of the MTN FA Cup following a 1-0 win over city-rivals King Faisal at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Wednesday. Dauda Saaka scored the winning goal for the Porcupine Warriors, scoring the match winner inside 31 minutes after a highly competitive game in the first 30 minutes. The former Bofoakwa Tano attacker headed home the goal from a beautiful cross from the right side, having controlled most parts of the match in the first half an hour.

King Faisal then took over in the second half, looking for the equalizer, but their efforts were thwarted as Asante Kotoko held on to win 1-0 – to confirm their passage to the Round of 16.

In Kpando, Ismail Abambila scored a brace as Heart of Lions secured a 2-0 win over Na God FC to progress to the Round of 16. Lions, who have been undone by back-to-back home defeats in the Ghana Premier League, were desperate to correct the wrongs, and it took only 13 minutes for Abambila to score the opener. The lanky attacker scored the second goal inside 56 minutes to give his side passage into the next round of the Cup competition.

Elsewhere at Tarkwa, two-time winners Medeama SC secured a 3-1 win over Bibiani Gold Stars courtesy of goals from Kingsley Braye. Braye opened the scoring in the 27th minute and added the second goal right on the stroke of halftime, before scoring the third goal inside 85 minutes, as Gideon Anaba fetched a consolation goal for the Bibiani lads in the 59th minute.

In other matches, Swedru All Blacks and Tamale City progressed ahead of Sefwi All Stars and Karela United Football Club through penalty kicks after their respective matches ended goalless.

These sides join the likes of Berekum Chelsea, FC Samartex 1996, Dreams FC, Aduana FC, Attram De Visser, Real Tamale United, Techiman Liberty Youth, Inter Allies, and giant killers True Life FC, the only remaining second Division side in the competition, following victories over record holders Accra Hearts of Oak and WAFA SC.
