Who are Tyler and Jack Fletcher?

Manchester United interim manager Darren Fletcher’s twin sons are both currently midfielders at the club.

The 19-year-old academy duo featured as part of Ruben Amorim’s final few matches in charge of United prior to his dismissal as head coach on Monday.

Former United midfielder and under-18s head coach Darren was promoted to interim head coach in Amorim’s place and will take charge of United’s trip to Burnley on Wednesday.

While Tyler has made the bench in each of United’s last three games, Jack was used by Amorim in United’s last three matches of 2025 as a substitute.

The brothers are central midfielders. While both can play more defensively, Jack has also played as a winger on the right side.

The duo are capped internationally. Although they both started with England’s under-16s, Tyler switched nationalities to Scotland – the nation his father represented.

Tyler and Jack played against each other in November 2025 during a Under-19s European Championship qualifier between Scotland and England.

In July 2023, the pair signed for United from direct rivals Manchester City for a reported combined fee of £1.25m.

Although there was an element of surprise when Jack Fletcher was named in Ruben Amorim’s squad for the trip to Tottenham in November, after Kobbie Mainoo pulled out due to injury, in terms of available midfielders he was next in line.

Both Jack and Tyler have been central figures in Travis Binnion’s Under-21 squad this season. While results against senior teams in both the EFL Trophy and National League Cup have not been exceptional this season, United’s Under-21 side go into the second half of the Premier League 2 campaign with an excellent record of seven wins and a single defeat from their eight games. The Fletcher brothers are part of that.

Jack is viewed as slightly more progressive in his passing, and tends to play higher up the pitch. He has also featured at full-back at times, which may be an advantage when it comes to making matchday squads at senior level.

Both were part of Manchester City‘s academy at one stage, and while Darren Fletcher is evidently a guiding light in their careers, he has been keen to let the pair make their own decisions in terms of their playing journey – including which international team they wanted to represent.

Tyler is also good on the ball, but is yet to score this season, which Jack has. However, he is also still to be sent off, which is what happened to Jack in the EFL Trophy at Barnsley, when he objected to a refereeing decision in a manner the referee found unacceptable.

Should either of the Fletcher twins play under father Darren while he is in interim charge of United, they would join an exclusive club of sons to have played under the management of their fathers in the Premier League.

Jamie Redknapp played under dad Harry at Southampton, while former United centre-back Steve Bruce managed son Alex at Hull.

Also at Old Trafford, Sir Alex Ferguson handed 18 Premier League appearances to son Darren during the first half of the 1992-93 season.

In that same season, Nigel Clough played every match under father Brian at Nottingham Forest.
