KGL U-17 Colts 2025: KGL Foundation hosts career pathway seminar for participants

The KGL Foundation, proud sponsors of the prestigious KGL U-17 Inter-Regional Championship, organised a career pathway seminar for participants of the 2025 tournament, on Friday September 26, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence.

The interactive session, held on the eve of the competition’s grand finale, brought together players, “catch-them-young” referees, team officials, medics, and instructors for an afternoon of dialogue and inspiration. The event underscored the Foundation’s belief that nurturing Ghana’s football talent extends beyond the pitch.

Delivering the keynote address, Madam Priscilla Da Costa, Executive Administrator of the KGL Foundation, explained that a career pathway in football is  “a planned route through different jobs, education and training, offering a clear roadmap for progression within the football industry.”

She stressed the importance of mentorship, continuous training and personal discipline, urging players and referees alike to embrace lifelong learning and professional development to maximize their potential. Participants engaged enthusiastically, posing thoughtful questions that Madam Da Costa answered with practical advice drawn from her extensive experience.

The seminar was moderated by Daasebre Adu-Asare, Regional Football Associations Coordinator, who steered the discussions and encouraged the young participants to view football not just as a sport, but as a platform for broader career opportunities.

In their closing remarks, Mr. Kenny Zigar and Mr. Kwasi Nkansah echoed the theme of balance. Both speakers encouraged the players to remain focused on their football ambitions while giving equal, if not greater, priority to their education.

Now in its fifth edition, the KGL U-17 Inter-Regional Championship has become Ghana’s premier platform for discovering and nurturing emerging football talent.

The 2025 tournament features an expanded 12-team lineup, comprising all ten Regional Football Associations and the two GFA Elite Academies, ensuring both competitive depth and nationwide representation.

The competition is powered by a landmark five-year, $1 million sponsorship from the KGL Foundation, reaffirming its role in the Football Association’s grassroots development strategy. The partnership aims to drive talent identification, safeguard player welfare, and inspire the next generation of Ghanaian football stars.

With the seminar concluded, attention now shifts to Saturday’s eagerly awaited final, where defending champions Western Region face former winners Ashanti Region. The matchup promises goals, drama and a showcase of the country’s brightest young talents, many of whom left the seminar with a clearer vision of how to turn their football dreams into sustainable careers.

The KGL Foundation continues to demonstrate that building future champions involves far more than what happens during 90 minutes on the pitch.
