The second phase of the GFA Talent Identification and Development (TID) Programme is ongoing across the country, with the Greater Accra and Western Regions being the first two regions to witness the event.

The Shama District in the Western Region wrapped up their session from July 24-26, 2025, at Shama Senior High School. This event marks a significant step in our ongoing effort to scout, nurture, and develop young football talent for the GFA Elite Academies and Youth National Teams.

The Shama Senior High centre hosted 28 players per day—20 boys and 8 girls—mainly from Junior High School (JHS) Forms 2 and 3. The sessions included technical and basic tactical training, equipping young players with the fundamental skills needed for competitive football. In Shama, 30 players were scouted from surrounding schools, all displaying promising talent and enthusiasm.

The Greater Accra Region was first to witness the programme at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex at Tema New Town in July. The training sessions are organised to run twice weekly—on Fridays and Saturdays—guided by district coaches under the supervision of a dedicated technical team led by the Head of Talent Identification, Papa Nii Lartey, FIFA Talent Coach Stuart Maclaren, and Edward Gyamfi-Acheampong, Head of Video and Data Analysis. Physical Education Coordinators from the Ghana Education Service were also present.

The event in Shama came to a successful end, marking a bold step in the TID’s nationwide expansion. The next destination is the Volta Region, where anticipation is already high among surrounding schools and enthusiasts.

The primary aim of the Talent Identification and Development Programme is to recognise and develop young football talent for the GFA’s Elite Academies and potential future inclusion in the national youth teams. The programme will lead to district competitions, from which the best players will be selected for further development at the national level.

The programme will later move to the Eastern Region and Central Region from August 7-9, 2025, before the Inter District Competition is held from August 11-17, 2025.
