Crystal Palace Star incredible season has reignited Arsenal’s interest in the 26-year-old attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze. Arsenal is looking to bolster their squad depth and creativity through the transfer window. They see Eze as the perfect summer target even with competing interest and price.

Palace Star Eze was released by Arsenal’s academy at 13 years old. He has established himself in the Premier League after continuing his development. An impressive season, including 15 goals and 11 assists across all competitions (including the winning goal in the FA Cup final) reflects Eze’s extraordinary growth and success. Palace qualifying for Europe adds difficulty to the potential transfer. However, with Eze claiming to want to play Champions League football, it aligns with Arsenal’s persuasive project as a club.

According to reports, it could still be good value for Arsenal to sign Eze. Crystal Palace are open to accepting an offer less that the £68 million release clause. This is because of a “gentleman’s agreement” with the player. Also, if Eze continues to express a desire to sign with a competitive and rounded club. Football Insider claimed Palace would not stand in the way of any serious offer. It includes accepting a lower fee on the basis of Eze had not completed their ambitions. Arsenal’s sporting director, Andrea Berta will be up against it trying to balance a fair price, whilst taking the opportunity into consideration.

Eze playing across the attacking front centrally, left or second striker ease some difficulty for Arsenal’s injury prone attackers. Eze’s goal contributions this season adds to Arsenal’s stable yardstick as Martin Odegaard and Leandro Trossard have offered inconsistent performances. Mikel Arteta and his system relies on Athletic playing attacking football with various playmakers, making Eze a tactical disciplined player to ward against.

Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham are also targeting Eze. City, in the wake of Kevin De Bruyne’s exit, has the odds in their favor at 2/1, but Arsenal’s Champions League qualifier and London proximity may affect negotiations.   For starters, Palace were looking for a fee of £68 million for Eze, but they are willing to consider offers. Even at that price, Eze’s contract running until 2027 gives Palace negotiating room to accept a lower transfer fee.

Although Arteta dismissed the urgency to make a midfield signing citing Declan Rice and Ethan Nwaneri as the options, it is arguable that Eze offers proven Premier League quality, and a strong chance of immediate gains compared to younger players. He has experience of playing in high-pressure scenarios such as the FA Cup final, which are important when aiming for trophies like Arsenal are.

🚨 Arsenal and Liverpool are both competing to sign Eberechi Eze, who would be available for £60m due to a release clause in his Crystal Palace contract.

Eze’s emotional attachment to Arsenal after having come through their youth system will undoubtedly also feature in his decision-making process. The clubs’ fans have also put pressure on the club to sign him the last few seasons especially after Eze’s FA Cup Final performance and winning goal at Wembley.  It will certainly be more difficult for him to leave Crystal Palace with their European campaign underway as the club don’t want to lose their key players.

Arsenal’s pursuit of Eze rests on the basis that they negotiate a fee lower than the £68 million release clause. Eze’s ability to play multiple positions and the emotional links to Arsenal make him a good target for the club. If Berta is able to use Palace’s goodwill towards a deal for Eze, securing his signing will enhance Arteta’s squad. It will worn off without the significant sums that typically would take for a signing of this stature.
