‘Your journey has been a remarkable one’: Sachin Tendulkar lauds Rohit Sharma after Test retirement

Indian icon Sachin Tendulkar on Thursday lauded Rohit Sharma after he announced his retirement from Test cricket on Wednesday. Tendulkar, who handed Rohit his debut Test cap at the Eden Gardens in 2013, said his journey had been a remarkable one and wished him well for the future.

“I remember presenting you with your Test cap in 2013 at Eden Gardens and then standing with you on the balcony of Wankhede Stadium the other day – your journey has been a remarkable one. From then to now, you have given your best to Indian cricket as a player and as a captain. Well done, Rohit, on your Test career, and best wishes for what lies ahead,” Tendulkar posted on X on Thursday.

Rohit made a brilliant Test debut in the two-match series against the West Indies in , hitting 177 in his maiden appearance and following it up with a 111 not out in Tendulkar’s last Test in .

announced his retirement from Test cricket on Wednesday, a day it was revealed by that he would not be captaining the Indian cricket team for the England series.

“Hello everyone I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It’s been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years,” Rohit said with a photo of the Team India Test cap on his Instagram Story.

The announcement comes after a wretched tour of Australia earlier this year resulted in a second defeat at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Monday.

In the last 11 Test innings, Rohit Sharma has an average of 6.63, having managed to score only 73 runs. Rohit’s longest outing was his latest hit in the second innings at MCG in a 340-run chase, facing 40 deliveries for nine runs.
