Sophie Ecclestone was left facepalming after fumbling in the field during the final over of the first innings in the decisive third T20I between India and England at The Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton on Tuesday, June 3.

After Charlotte Dean won the toss for the home side and opted to field first, the Women in Blue posted a decent total of 180/5 in 20 overs on the back of Harmanpreet Kaur’s unbeaten 56-run knock off 40 balls and handy cameos from Yastika Bhatia and Deepti Sharma.

On the last ball of the first innings, something very comical happened on the field. Left-arm spinner Ecclestone bowled a brilliant yorker to Richa Ghosh, who dug it out straight back at the bowler. Harmanpreet, batting at the non-striker’s end, had backed up too far and strolled down casually towards the batting end. Ghosh also started jogging towards the bowler’s end, knowing that she would never be able to complete the run.

The ball went straight to Ecclestone and Ghosh had only taken four steps by then. However, the England cricketer fumbled. Still, when she got hold of the ball, she had ample time to run Ghosh out. However, when Ecclestone finally had the ball in her control, she still had a lot of time to settle herself and underarm a throw to hit the stumps. However, she missed and the Indian wicketkeeper-batter completed the run.

Ecclestone was left facepalming after her error after going down on her haunches. Her teammates also had a laugh. However, the mistake didn’t cost England as they chased down the 181-run target with six wickets and nine balls to spare. The home side bagged the three-match series 2-1, with Alice Capsey being named Player of the Match as well as Player of the Series.

Ecclestone had all the time in the world… and none of the execution 😁
