Rohit Sharma was dismissed for just seven runs in the Mumbai Indians’ (MI) clash against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday, May 6. This is a very important clash in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as the team which emerges victorious will move to the top of the points table.
After Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to field first, Mohammed Siraj drew first blood off the second delivery of the innings as he dismissed Ryan Rickelton. Will Jacks came out to bat at No. 3 and hit the ground running. In the fourth over, Rohit tried to break the shackles as he looked to hit Arshad Khan over mid-off for a maximum. However, the former MI skipper couldn’t establish a proper connection, and the ball lobbed up to mid-off where Prasidh Krishna took a simple catch.
There was pin-drop silence at the Wankhede Stadium as MI fans were disappointed to see the 37-year-old returning to the pavilion without putting on a show. The camera panned to Rohit’s wife, Ritika Sajdeh, who was sitting in the stands. She cut a dejected figure as she watched her husband making the long walk back to the pavilion.
Gujarat Titans had a poor outing in the field inside the powerplay as they dropped three catches. Sai Kishore, Sai Sudharsan, and Mohammed Siraj dropped regulation catches. Will Jacks got two reprieves, while Suryakumar Yadav had one.

Why is Washington Sundar not playing in MI vs GT Match 56?
Jacks and Suryakumar added 71 runs off 43 balls to put the hosts in a strong position. However, from 97/2 in the 11th over, the five-time champions slumped to 123/7 in the 17th. The onus will be on Corbin Bosch and Deepak Chahar to provide a strong finish. Meanwhile, Gujarat have been excellent with the ball and would want to restrict Mumbai to as low a total as possible. With the likes of Shubman, Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler being in magnificent form, the 2022 champions will be confident of bagging full points from this fixture.
