A female fan created a scene at the Indian team’s hotel in Delhi on September 17, 2026, while attempting to get a photograph with Abhishek Sharma after the third T20I between Afghanistan and India. The incident took place after the players returned to the hotel following the match at Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi.

A video of the incident was doing the rounds on social media. In the clip, the fan can be seen calling out to Abhishek and pushing forward through the security arrangements to get closer to him. Hotel security personnel stepped in and held her back as Abhishek continued towards the team area. Indian players travelling with the squad are accompanied by security staff, particularly on arrival at team hotels.

Abhishek Sharma’s 108 off 34 balls sets multiple T20I records

The fan’s reaction came on the back of a remarkable evening for the left-handed opener. Abhishek scored 108 off 34 balls, hitting 9 fours and 11 sixes at a strike rate of 317.64. He reached his fifty off 16 balls and needed only 14 more balls to bring up his hundred, completing the century off 30 balls in total.

That 30-ball hundred is the fastest T20I century by an Indian batter, going past Rohit Sharma’s previous India record of 35 balls set against Sri Lanka in 2017. It is also the fastest T20I hundred by a batter from an ICC Full Member nation, beating the previous joint record of 33 balls held by Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza against Gambia on October 23, 2024, and New Zealand’s Finn Allen against South Africa on March 4, 2026. Across all men’s T20Is including non-Full Members, it ranks as the third-fastest century in history, behind Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan (27 balls vs Cyprus, 2024) and Turkey’s Muhammad Fahad (29 balls).

India complete 3-0 series sweep over Afghanistan

Abhishek scored 76 of his runs off 22 balls inside the powerplay, which is described as the highest individual score in overs 1 to 6 in men’s T20Is, surpassing Portugal’s Kuldeep Gholiya who made 74 not out off 25 balls against Malta in Gibraltar in 2023. He and Sanju Samson put on 100 runs in the first six overs, recorded as India’s highest powerplay partnership score in T20Is. In total, 102 of his 108 runs came from boundaries. He was eventually dismissed caught behind by Rahmanullah Gurbaz off Rashid Khan in the 10th over, with India placed at 142/1.

India finished on 221/7 in their 20 overs. Afghanistan, who had won the toss and chosen to field, were bowled out for 94 in 14.1 overs, giving India a 127-run victory. The result completed a 3-0 series sweep for India. This was Abhishek’s third T20I century. Among Indian batters, only Rohit Sharma with 5 and Suryakumar Yadav with 4 have scored more T20I hundreds. His series average across the three matches stood at 76.33. The 11 sixes he hit in this innings are the second-most by an Indian batter in a single T20I innings; Abhishek himself holds the Indian record with 13 sixes, set against England in Mumbai in 2025.
