The West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B has outdoored Ghana Football Association officials Jamil Maraby and Alexander Kotey into key leadership positions at the sub-regional football body.

The ceremony, held at the WAFU headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on Saturday, May 9, 2026, formally confirmed Jamil Maraby as President of the WAFU Zone B Marketing Committee, while Alexander Kotey was unveiled as a member of the Referees Committee.

Their appointments signal the beginning of important responsibilities aimed at strengthening football governance, commercial growth and officiating standards within the West African sub-region.

Maraby, who serves as Director of Marketing at the Ghana Football Association (GFA), will head a three-member Marketing Committee tasked with driving the commercial transformation of football in WAFU Zone B. His role will focus on enhancing brand visibility, attracting strategic partnerships, expanding sponsorship opportunities and developing sustainable commercial models to support football growth across member nations.

His appointment is seen as a major endorsement of Ghana’s expertise in football marketing and administration, particularly at a time when football institutions across the region are seeking innovative approaches to commercial sustainability and fan engagement.

Alexander Kotey, the GFA’s Referees Manager, joins the WAFU Zone B Referees Committee with the responsibility of contributing to the improvement of officiating standards and referee development in the region.

Kotey is expected to bring his technical expertise and vast experience in referee management to help strengthen training systems, assessment mechanisms, and overall officiating quality among member associations.
