Volta Regional Football Association Holds Ordinary Congress to Usher in New Season

The Volta Regional Football Association (VRFA) successfully held its Ordinary Session of Congress at the Ho Municipal Assembly Hall, marking the official start of the new football season. Over 90 congressmen attended the session, which brought together key football stakeholders across the region.

In his opening remarks, VRFA Chairman Daniel Agbogah congratulated the Black Stars for qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He described the feat as a source of pride and motivation for the football community in the Volta Region.

Mr. Agbogah also used the occasion to educate members on recent amendments to the GFA Statutes and Standing Orders of Congress, emphasizing that deliberations during Congress are no longer permitted. Instead, members are now required to submit proposals in writing for consideration.

The Chairman encouraged members to familiarize themselves with football statutes and regulations to avoid misinformation and ensure effective participation in the governance of the game. He also explained the rationale behind hosting the Regional Middle League in the regional capital, citing Ho’s diverse population and accessibility, which help attract more fans and media attention to regional competitions.

Outlining plans for the new season, Mr. Agbogah announced that the 2025/26 Volta Regional Division Two League will kick off on the weekend of November 14, 2025. A Competition Management System (CMS) training session is scheduled for November 2–4, 2025, to build the capacity of club administrators. He further revealed that, for the first time in the region’s history, the winner of the Division Two League will receive prize money — a move aimed at motivating clubs to perform better.

Mr. Agbogah also disclosed ongoing discussions with the Ghana Education Service to introduce new football competitions at the school level. He praised the active participation of clubs in the previous season, noting that over 50 clubs are now using social media platforms to promote their activities and engage fans. He also commended the District Football Association chairmen for their continued role in identifying and nurturing young talents at the grassroots level.

Representing the GFA President, Executive Council Member Mr. Gideon Fosu commended the leadership of the VRFA for its commitment to football development in the region. He highlighted the progress made under the Kurt Okraku administration in areas such as referee training, grassroots coaching, and youth competitions. He further called on political leaders and stakeholders to support the development of football in the region.

Other notable attendees included the Regional Director of the National Sports Authority, Madam Philipina Frimpong; former VRFA Chairman, Mr. Francis Dogbatse; and the Regional Physical Education Coordinator, Mr. Roger Tay. All commended the association’s efforts and urged continued collaboration to grow football in the Volta Region.

The Ordinary Congress serves as the highest decision-making platform for regional football stakeholders and is held annually to review the past season, share policy updates, and set the agenda for the upcoming campaign.
