Versatile back Ethan Grayson has signed a contract extension with Newcastle Red Bulls, keeping him at the club for the next two seasons.

The 23-year-old has scored two tries and contributed a total of 33 points since arriving from US club San Diego Legion in September 2024.

Grayson, who plays at full-back, fly-half or centre, began his career at the Northampton Saints academy and has also played for Bedford Blues.

“It’s a really exciting time to be involved at the club with everything going on under the new ownership – not just on the playing side, but all the improvements to the facilities and around the place in general,” he told the club website., external

“This is a club that’s really going places and it’s brilliant to have the contract sorted for another two years, but first and foremost it’s about the current season and taking care of what’s immediately in front of us.”

The Red Bulls are bottom of the Prem Rugby table, having failed to win any of their eight games so far this season, but are second in their European Challenge Cup group with two wins out of two so far.

They are at home to Gloucester in league action on Friday.

“Ethan has applied himself really well and played to a consistently high standard,” said sporting general manager Neil McIlroy.

“I look forward to seeing his continued development during this exciting period of growth for the organisation, and whilst there is an understandable focus on external recruitment I think it’s also important that we recognise and reward the talent we already have within the building.”
