Vaibhav Sooryavanshi set to make his Indian debut soon, might break Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee has reportedly taken a significant step towards rewarding young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for his impressive performances. The 15-year-old is understood to be in contention for India’s squad for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland in June, following the conclusion of the Indian Premier League 2026.

If handed a debut, Sooryavanshi could etch his name in the record books as India’s youngest-ever international cricketer, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who made his debut at 16. The youngster has been shortlisted for the Ireland tour, where India are scheduled to play two T20Is on June 26 and 28.

“He is in contention for the Ireland tour and the selectors have shortlisted his name along with those of many other players,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

The move indicates the selectors’ willingness to fast-track the Rajasthan Royals prodigy, giving him exposure against comparatively less challenging opposition. A strong outing in Ireland could further strengthen his case for the subsequent tour of Zimbabwe, where India are set to play three matches between July 23 and 26.

One of the key factors behind the growing buzz around the youngster has been his fearless approach against world class bowlers in the ongoing IPL. He took on Jasprit Bumrah, widely regarded as one of the best T20 bowlers in the world, smashing him for two sixes in just five deliveries, including one off the very first ball.

He also showcased his attacking prowess against Josh Hazlewood during a clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, thumping him for 19 runs in a single over with three boundaries and a six. To cap it off, he struck back-to-back sixes against Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
