Trent McDuffie will not play for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2026. The cornerback will instead play for the Rams after the first blockbuster trade of the offseason. Instead of paying the cornerback, the team elected to ship him away, suddenly making cornerback a must-early in the 2026 NFL draft.
Of course, while the possibility of signing another free agent is technically on the board, moving on from a young cornerback before his fifth-year option (Spotrac) signals a strong desire for a cheaper player. It doesn’t get much cheaper than the NFL draft.
