A rare and memorable moment unfolded at MA Chidambaram Stadium as three generations of Indian T20 leadership came together ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026 clash between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, and Suryakumar Yadav, all World Cup-winning captains, were seen sharing a light moment during a practice session, a visual that quickly went viral among fans.

Each of these players represents a defining era in Indian T20 cricket. Dhoni famously guided India to victory in the inaugural 2007 T20 World Cup, setting the foundation for the format’s growth in the country. Rohit carried that legacy forward, leading India to another global title in 2024. Most recently, Suryakumar successfully defended the crown in 2026, marking his place among the elite leaders of the game.

However, the current IPL season has not been equally kind to all three. Suryakumar Yadav, known for his explosive batting, has struggled to find rhythm. In eight innings, he has managed just 162 runs at an average of 20.25 and a strike rate of 140.87, figures significantly below his usual standards. His recent scores of 6, 33, 0, 15, 36, and 5 reflect a lack of consistency that has affected Mumbai Indians’ campaign.

Rohit, on the other hand, started the season on a promising note but has been sidelined due to a hamstring injury sustained against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He has now missed four consecutive matches, including a recent fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Although he has resumed light training, MI captain Hardik Pandya confirmed that Rohit requires more time to recover, leaving uncertainty over his return.

Meanwhile, Dhoni has yet to make an appearance this season due to a calf injury. Despite hopes of a comeback, especially in Chennai, he has remained out of the playing XI. CSK management appears cautious, prioritizing team balance and his full recovery.

In terms of standings, CSK sit seventh with six points and a net run rate of -0.121, while MI are struggling in ninth place with four points and a net run rate of -0.784.
