Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has revealed that the Reds have an option to extend his contract by a season and are likely to activate it. He admitted that it was a key season in his career as he wanted to do his best to get a place in the FIFA World Cup next year.
Speaking to the media, Alisson confirmed that he had held talks with former Brazilian players from the Premier League regarding a return to the Brazilian Serie A. However, he has no plans to switch clubs immediately as he wants to continue playing at the top level and said (via METRO and Fabrizio Romano):
Liverpool will also have Giorgi Mamardashvili returning from Valencia. The Reds had agreed a deal for him last year, but the goalkeeper stayed with the Spanish side for another season. They are also reportedly bringing in Armin Pesci from Puskas Akademia this month.
Liverpool goalkeeping coach Claudio Taffarel spoke to ESPN Brasil in April and stated that Liverpool had signed Giorgi Mamardashvili keeping the future in mind. They still believe in Alisson but were preparing themselves for the Brazilian’s eventual exit. He said (via This Is Anfield):
