The popular franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) recently lost the game against the Punjab Kings (PBKS), which resulted in them finishing fourth on the Indian Premier League (IPL) points table ahead of the playoffs. One of the factors worrying the Mumbai franchise is the form of Rohit Sharma. The legendary batter has recently been criticised by the former India pacer, Atul Wassan.
While observing Rohit’s performances throughout the tournament, Atul has claimed that the former MI skipper has lost his hunger to play big knocks and score runs in the ongoing IPL 2025. The former Indian cricketer has also mentioned that Rohit has won almost everything in his cricketing career, and it will be tough to motivate himself to play at his best at the same competitive level.
“He seems to be a bit disinterested; the motivation, the fire in the belly, has satiated. He has won almost everything, from winning the T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy to retiring from Test cricket. Hence, to motivate yourself to play at this level of cricket every day is a very tough task,” Wassan said in an episode of Bails and Banter.

This year has also been quite underwhelming for the two-time T20 World Champion. In the 13 games he has played, he has only managed to score 329 runs at an average of 27.41, with three half-centuries to his name, and a strike rate of 147.53. The last 50+ knock from Rohit came 26 days ago against the Rajasthan Royals on 1 May at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
In the last game against the Punjab Kings (PBKS), Rohit got another decent start but failed to convert it into a big score, eventually being dismissed by Harpreet Brar after scoring 24 off 21 deliveries. The Mumbai franchise will want the ‘Hitman’ to find his feet in the playoffs and get back to playing some match-winning knocks.
