Indian shuttlers enjoyed a successful opening day at the US Open 2026, with Tanvi Sharma, Devika Sihag, Kidambi Srikanth and Rounak Chouhan registering convincing victories to progress to the second round of the BWF Super 300 tournament in Fullerton on Wednesday.

World Junior Championships silver medallist Tanvi Sharma overcame Germany’s Yvonne Li 23-21, 21-16 in the women’s singles first round. The teenager survived a closely fought opening game before taking control of the contest to wrap up the match in straight games.

Thailand Masters champion Devika Sihag also advanced comfortably, defeating Peru’s Ines Lucia Castillo 21-14, 21-14 to begin her campaign on a winning note.

In the men’s singles draw, Rounak Chouhan won the first of two all-Indian contests, defeating former World Junior Championships silver medallist S. Sankar Muthusamy 23-21, 21-16.

Fifth seed Kidambi Srikanth then produced another dominant display, brushing aside compatriot D. Saneeth 21-14, 21-12 in just 30 minutes to book his place in the next round.

India also enjoyed success in the women’s singles through Rakshitha Sree, who eased past the Czech Republic’s Tereza Svabikova 21-15, 21-8.

In mixed doubles, the seventh-seeded pairing of Dhruv Rawat and K. Maneesha progressed after defeating Indonesia’s Wirawan Ihsan Adam and Serena Kani 21-15, 21-16 in a match that lasted just 26 minutes.

The impressive results ensured a strong Indian presence in the later stages of the tournament, with several leading shuttlers advancing comfortably as they continue their pursuit of titles at the US Open.
